The holy trinity in RPGs is defined by the directional interaction between players and enemies

  • We can easily distinguish between damage dealers, tanks, and healers in the following way:
    • DPS: Player -> Enemy
    • Tank: Enemy -> Player
    • Healer: Player -> Player
  • These categories help in identifying the three tropes in games and highlight why it is not that easy to break out of the holy trinity.
