Customers own the problem, entrepreneurs own the solution

  • It is the customers job to talk about the problem. Don't focus on your solution or the customers imagined solution.
  • You aren’t allowed to tell them what their problem is, and in return, they aren’t allowed to tell you what to build.
  • As a general rule, people know what their problems are, but they don’t know how to solve those problems. Therefore, don't focus on what they are currently doing but rather on what they are trying to achieve.
  • What matters is not WHAT they tried in particular, but rather THAT they tried something to solve the problem. Mostly because If someone has not looked for a solution to a problem of theirs, they are unlikely to be interested in your solutionIf someone has not looked for a solution to a problem of theirs, they are unlikely to be interested in your solution

    When a customer tells you about a problem, be sure to ask them if they have already looked for a solution for that problem. If not, it is likely that they do not care that much about the problem...
