, people often use busyness as an alternative indicator to show their productivity.

The reason laid out is simple: In most modern knowledge work jobs, there isn't a clear indicator of what it means to be productive (most of the indicators are delayed), so to show off, people want to do lots of stuff in a visible manner.

Finding better measurements is challenging, but should be the goal when evaluating ones current behavior in regards to pursuing any given goal (work with the end in mind, if I ever read the habits of highly effective people book, this note should be linked to it)
